She trained initially at Plumpton College in Sussex and was invited to exhibit at the Society of Botanical Artists' exhibition in 2000.  She was awarded an RHS medal at the Royal Horticultural Society’s annual exhibition in London in 2004.

In 2008, she commenced a course with the English Gardening School at Chelsea Physic Garden and in 2012 was awarded the Diploma in Botanical Watercolour Painting. Julie is a member of the Scottish Society of Botanical Artists and exhibits regularly at their exhibitions.

Although her work is mainly botanical, Julie has always been interested in all aspects of nature and takes inspiration from living in Cromarty.

Working almost exclusively in watercolour, she specialises in painting on vellum as well as paper.

Julie is regularly exhibiting and giving talks both at her home and all around Scotland. She teaches at her home and travels around Scotland to give workshops or tuition for groups or individuals.
